My name is Richard and I am a 23 year old banker currently residing in Raleigh, NC. My family is from Kentucky, so I was rasied true blue. Living in the heart of ACC country is constantly frustrating for a Kentucky fan. Be it local stations showing ACC cellar dwelars over Kentucky or the utter ignorance and arrogance of UNC fans, I find myself in more arguments than is probably healthy.

I am a graduate of NC State University, but even that fact could not change my UK allegiance. I do cheer for the Wolfpack against any other team, and have found many similarities the program shares with Kentucky. NC State was once a proud basketball school full of history when it comes to basketball in the south. Were it not for Evertt Case being ahead of the curveDuke and North Carolina would not be where they are today. Sadly, ever since the 80's my once proud Alma Matter has been relegated to 4th best program in it's own state.

I grew up during the Pitino years of UK basketball and hunger for that kind of bluegrass dominance to return. I believe we have the right man for the job now, but only time will tell.

I also enjoy playing music, watching sports, being on the water, and long walks on the beach.... ;-)

Since UK news is slowing...

I just wanted some opinion on a story that isn't getting much coverage down here in ACC land.

This was in the Raleigh N&O today: http://www.newsobserver.com/sports/college/unc/story/1055122.html

So, the Tarheels have a "voluntary" scrimmage, consisting of the whole team, with the coach watching, during exam week and the NCAA basically doesn't care.

This happened last year when Ray Felton and Sean May played pick-up games with UNC recruits, also a violation, and again nothing happened. Here is that link: http://www.newsobserver.com/sports/college/unc/story/709830.html

It's really amazing to live down here and see all of the things UNC gets away with. NC State was prohibited from the NCAA tournament after going undefeated because David Thompson, a recruit at the time, played a pick-up game with Stae players. Carolina has a large journalism school and it clearly shows by reading the NC papers.

New NBA rule

What does everyone think about the NBA's new rule requiring players to stay in college for two years now? I read somewhere that these kids were likely to take the rule and challenge its legality, but wasn't this already done in the NFL?

I had thought that the grey goose drinkin, gun wielding Maurice Clarett ruined it for everyone, but maybe not. Could some of our sharp legal minds here at ASoB set me straight please?

Assuming the rule sticks, It seems it would be beneficial to the great recruiters (BCG), but also reduce some of the parody in college hoops. The increase in talent level would lessen the emphasis on great coaching and make the recruiting trails even more ruthless (Bruce Pearl).

Promoted from the Diaries: There's still Time left! Bracket Busting!!

Registration for the ASOB NCAA pool doesn't close until the first round of games begin. (The play-in games does not count towards scoring) Now that we know our Cats are dancing it should make filling out a bracket much easier.

There's obviously no money involved, but it will be fun to have a little friendly competition between ourselves. There's even a message board for you trash talkers out there.

Those who have already signed up, don't forget to fill out your bracket before the games start.

May the best Cat fan win!

ASOB Bracket Busting

Just wondering if you guys did any kind of NCAA bracket pool. I know we could create a group on one of the larger sites (ie: espn, yahoo, etc..), but would it be possible to get our own here?

I think it would be really cool to see how some of us rank amatuers compare to Tru and a few of the other "big boys" on this site. Just throwing a thought out there, what does everyone else think?
