John Calipari and his coaching staff are busy putting together their 2020 recruiting class as they’re awaiting word from several prospects like Greg Brown, Isaiah Todd, Lance Ware, and several others.
Now there’s one name they no longer need to worry about.
Four-star power forward Jaemyn Brakefield from nearby Huntington (WV) released his list of top 10 schools, and the Kentucky Wildcats did not make the cut.
The schools to make Brakefield’s list were the Michigan State Spartans, UCLA Bruins, Ole Miss Rebels, Michigan Wolverines, Florida State Seminoles, Louisville Cardinals, Oregon Ducks, West Virginia Mountaineers, Auburn Tigers and Kansas Jayhawks.

Brakefield is rated as the fifth-best power forward for 2020, according to 247 Sports. The 6-8, 210-pound big man is also the 32nd overall prospect. He took an unofficial visit to Kentucky for Big Blue Madness last year.
At one point, Brakefield was open to a reclassification into the 2019 class, where Kentucky could have used another body for the upcoming season, though it never appeared John Calipari wanted Brakefield in either class.
Currently, all three 247 Sports crystal ball predictions made have him heading to Lexington. However, it appears those predictions were incorrect, as Kentucky has been eliminated from Brakefield’s consideration.
Of course, the Wildcats could probably jump back into the mix if they offer a scholarship to Brakefield. But seeing as how Kentucky is more focused on guys like Brown, Todd, Ware and Clifford Omoruyi, it stands to reason that they’re no longer interested in Brakefield.
But looking at Brakefield’s list, there’s a good chance Kentucky will end up facing him when he arrives to college. Over at Rivals, three predictions have come in for Ole Miss to land Brakefield.
